Myth: Only people who were born creative can become artists.
This is truly the biggest misconception about art and its creators. I talked about how art isn’t limited to drawing and painting, rather a form of self-expression.
What’s considered “bad” art today could possibly be the next best thing for the next generation. You just don’t know it.
But art isn’t about finding the approval of the majority, or for anyone for that matter.
Yes, it’s true, art is about connecting with the soul which could also mean that you’re connecting with another being.
Sometimes, that’s just not the case for our time.
Remember that art has no limits. It has no name. It has no rules.
It’s fun to study it, take an Art History class if you can, or draw on your own.
However, if there’s ever a time where you question yourself, “Is this even worth it?” Remember that this is the midpoint. This is the point of no return. So don’t turn around, keep going!
The best advice that has stuck with me that I found online is, “You don’t have to be great to start, you just have to start to be great.” I believe Keith Lee is the one who said it, since I’m not exactly sure where it originated from, I’m just going to give him the credit.
Another quote: “You need to give yourself permission to be a beginner.”
Those are two great quotes I stick with every morning. I remind myself that it’s okay to learn.
Say it with me, it’s okay to learn.
Where it truly matters is you! Time will show you how good you can be.
Lastly, remember that creativity is a process, not a talent.
Talent is great! But it’s not about the talent, it’s about how much permission you’ve allowed yourself to explore and let your soul sing.
So create! Experiment! Make mistakes! And do it over and over again!
You don’t have to be great to start, you just have to start to be great.”
